Hearing about what happened this morning at St. Anne surprised me. Seeing the pictures of what happened made me sick to my stomach. Vandalizing sacred places isn’t something new, because I’ve heard it in news reports before- but actually witnessing the remnants of a hate crime? That’s new. And it’s not a feeling I’d want to experience again.
This picture is the only one my eyes can fully take. The close up photo of the Holy Family sends goosebumps down my body, and my heart drops. I know I’m not that religious, but my feelings are uniform to those faithful… You just don’t do shit like this.
Desecration is a serious form of disrespect. Say what you want about what you believe or don’t believe. Talk all the shit about whatever you’re for or against. But this? It’s another level that shouldn’t even be reached. And I’m not even saying all of this because I attend this church (my only reason for attending this one is the convenience factor- I live so close to it), or because I believe in Jesus… because if this act happened in another place of worship, whatever the religion may be, I really think that I’d feel the same as I do right now.
Respect~ a word that unfortunately needs to be reiterated because of stuff like this.
